2019 Jason Davis Kick Cancer Classic Recipient

Bentley Johny-Taylor Smith was diagnosed at 2-1/2 years of age with retinoblastoma.  He was diagonosed in Jackson, MS.  This is a cancer of the eye.  He had a tumor that consumed over 1/3 of his eye.  It had already broken off into seedlings.  They were referred to St. Jude in Memphis, TN. They went through a lot of testing and to save his life the doctor suggested enucleation.  On May 15, 2015 a total left eye enucleation was done at St. Jude.  He continued to stay under their care.  All the cancer was removed, but he formed a cyst on the pineal gland and one on the pituitary gland. They have had complications from the cyst.  The doctors say this is common with this type of cancer. Bentley still goes to many doctors in Jackson and St. Jude.  He also receives therapy for what he goes through.  Alfred (Butch) and Joyce Dewolf dedicate their life to him. Joyce had to quit her job when Bentley got sick so she could take care of him.  Butch must stay behind when they go to Memphis.  Bentley loves the beach and wants to learn to ride a bicycle like other children.
